Application example: crane boom max. angle monitoring

Crane booms (e.g. truck-mounted) are often subject to movement restrictions due to the limitations of the mechanical design and hydraulic system.

A tilt switch mounted on each segment of the boom can be used to indicate when the maximum angle is (about to be) reached. The tilt switch will then switch the output, signaling to the crane control unit to take appropriate action to prevent for malfunctioning, instability, or hazardous situations.

With a ±170° measurement range and zero-point setting, the DIS Sensors one-axis tilt switch (digital equivalent of a spirit level) allows any required angle to be programmed. In addition to the switching angle, delay times and filter options can also be configured ex-factory or set by the customer.

For functional safety, SIL1/PLc tilt switches are available.  For greater safety, redundant switches can be used.

Sensor: inclination sensor QG40N Tilt switch
Specific: 1-axis ±170°, single or dual PNP or NPN output, optional SIL1/PLc
